Three generations of John M Kennas barbers, Westport, February 1982. At left is John Mc Kenna senior long established barber shop on Bridge St. Westport where John and his family also lived. Standing is his son Sean who took over the business when his father retired in his late 80's and next to Sean is his young son John who now runs the Gents Barber Shop in the new location Market Lane, Bridge St. There is a new change in tradition which his grabdfather would never have dreamt of. John employs three lady barbers. Note the clock on the wall; at left St MartinDeporres black Saint and at right the infant of prague. These were possibly placed by John's senior wife Mrs Kathleen Mc Kenna. Also note each side of the wallcabinet are the rows of cut throat razors which were expertly used and sharpened by John senior for close up shaves for men. Sadly this tradition did not continue for the next generations after the invention of safety razors.
